Is it safe? Where do my photos go?
Everything happens in your browser: photos are fetched from VK and packed into a ZIP archive right on your device. Nothing is uploaded to any server — the site has no server side at all. The source code is open, so anyone can verify this.
Why do I need to log in with VK?
VK only shows private albums to their owner, so the app asks for access through the official VK login window. Your password is entered on vk.com only — this site never sees it. The access token is stored in a cookie in your browser and you can log out at any time.
How do I download an album?
Log in with VK, copy the link to your albums page (or a single album) from vk.com, paste it into the field and press Check. Then select the albums you need and press Download — the photos will be packed into a ZIP archive and saved by your browser.
Can I download the "Saved photos" album?
No — VK does not give third-party apps permission to read Saved photos. As a workaround, move them to a regular album first (for example with vk.com/movephotos) and download that album.
Are there any size limits?
No hard limits. Large albums are split into several ZIP archives of up to 1500 photos each. Downloading 10+ albums or 1000+ photos can take a while — keep the tab open and your computer awake until it finishes.
Is it really free?
Yes. Vk4y is completely free and open-source. There are no paid plans, subscriptions or hidden fees. Feedback and bug reports are welcome on the GitHub project page.
Why are the downloaded photos small or the album is not found?
This happens with very old VK albums where the originals are stored in low resolution. Try creating a new album and moving the photos into it (for example with vk.com/movephotos) — then download the new album.
